Breaking News: One of the Nation’s Largest WWII Reenactment Events Kicks Off at Mid-Atlantic Air Museum

Now in its 33rd year, this nationally recognized event draws tens of thousands of visitors, history buffs, veterans, and reenactors from around the country for a powerful three-day commemoration of the Second World War. The sprawling grounds of Reading Regional Airport have been transformed into a living time capsule complete with vintage aircraft, period camps, military vehicles, and authentically costumed participants bringing the 1940s to life.

The event features daily airshows with rare and restored World War II aircraft, including the iconic B-17 Flying Fortress, P-51 Mustang, and C-47 Skytrain. Visitors can even book rides on these historic planes for a once-in-a-lifetime airborne experience. Reenactments on the ground include simulated battles, military drills, and historical storytelling from individuals portraying both Allied and Axis forces.

This weekend is about honoring those who served and educating new generations, said Russ Strine, President of the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum. “It’s a chance to step into the past, not just to watch history, but to feel it.

Beyond the battlefield reenactments and air displays, the event offers living history encampments, war-era entertainment, and appearances from actual WWII veterans  many now in their late 90s  who share firsthand accounts of their service and sacrifices.

Vendors and exhibits line the grounds with period memorabilia, military gear, and 1940s-themed food and music, creating a full sensory experience that immerses visitors in the era.

Security and traffic control are in full force as organizers expect large crowds throughout the weekend. Parking and shuttle options are available, and early arrival is recommended.
