BREAKING NEWS: 2025 4-Star Shooting Guard Braydon Hawthorne Makes Decision to Join Duke via Social Media After Decommitting from West Virginia…

In a major recruiting development, 2025 four-star shooting guard Braydon Hawthorne has officially committed to Duke University, announcing his decision via social media Friday afternoon. The 6-foot-5 standout from Charlotte, North Carolina, had previously committed to West Virginia but reopened his recruitment following recent program changes in Morgantown.

Hawthorne is ranked among the top 100 prospects nationally and is widely regarded for his smooth shooting stroke, explosive athleticism, and defensive upside. His decision to join Duke gives Jon Scheyer and the Blue Devils a dynamic perimeter weapon to add to an already strong 2025 recruiting class.

“After careful consideration and conversations with my family, I’ve decided to commit to Duke University,” Hawthorne posted on X (formerly Twitter). “Thank you to West Virginia and Mountaineer Nation for the love and support — this wasn’t easy.”

Hawthorne had also garnered interest from programs like Kentucky, Tennessee, and UConn during his reopened recruitment, but ultimately chose to stay closer to home with Duke.

With Hawthorne’s commitment, Duke continues to build momentum on the recruiting trail, reinforcing its position as one of college basketball’s premier destinations for elite talent.
