Palm Beach, Florida — The tush push decision has been postponed till the next month. Green Bay’s plan to outlaw the play that has helped the Philadelphia Eagles win one Super Bowl and advance to another was put on hold until May, when NFL team owners were supposed to vote on it Tuesday. The kickoff rule, replay assist expansion, overtime rule revision, and other amendments were authorized by the team owners. The discussion will go on as teams collect additional data if the tush push vote is postponed. While the league’s medical experts raised safety concerns, both the play’s supporters and detractors made compelling cases.

McKay stated, “There are undoubtedly some people who are worried about their health and safety, but there are just as many people who are worried about football.”

The idea of returning to the former regulation, to before 2004, is being discussed a lot, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell stated. That broadens it beyond that one play, which is why I believe it makes a lot of sense. I believe there is a higher chance of injury in many scenarios where you see someone pushing or pulling someone who is not in the tush push formation. Therefore, I believe the committee will examine that and return in May with some recommendations.

The rules for regular-season overtime will now be the same as those in the playoffs, and even if the offense scores a touchdown on the first drive, both teams will still have an opportunity to get a possession. Instead of 15 minutes, the idea was changed to 10 minutes of overtime. The NFL Competition Committee also proposed allowing replay assistants to confer with on-field officials in order to overrule objective calls, such as facemask penalties, whether there was forceful contact to the head or neck area, horse-collar tackles, or tripping, in cases where there was “clear and obvious” evidence that a foul was not committed. The owners approved this proposal. If video proved the defender made contact with the ball, replay may also reverse a running-into-the-kicker or roughing-the-kicker penalty.

Owners also approved a proposal from the NFL Competition Committee to allow replay assist to consult on-field officials to overrule objective calls such as facemask penalties, whether there was forcible contact to the head or neck area, horse-collar tackles or tripping if there was ‘’clear and obvious’’ evidence that a foul didn’t occur. Replay also would be able to overturn a roughing-the-kicker or running-into-the-kicker penalty if video showed the defender made contact with the ball.

Replay assist could wipe out a foul only if it was incorrectly called, but it will not be used to throw a flag if a penalty wasn’t called.

Replay assist won’t be used to throw a flag if a penalty wasn’t called, but it might eliminate a foul only if it was called mistakenly. Touchbacks are now moved to the 35-yard line rather than the 30-yard line, and the dynamic kickoff rule is made permanent. During the two-day negotiation session, Pittsburgh’s proposal to permit teams to speak with no more than five potential unrestricted free agents by phone or video was accepted. After reaching an agreement, teams can now organize for these players to travel.
