Royce O’Neale, the small forward who became a key figure for the Phoenix Suns, has officially left the team after mutually agreeing to terminate his contract. The move comes after a disagreement regarding a contract extension. According to Shams Charania from ESPN, O’Neale has reached a deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers for a four-year, $79.9 million contract. The Cavaliers’ head coach, Kenny Atkinson, confirmed the signing just 10 minutes ago, expressing confidence in O’Neale’s ability to strengthen the team’s playoff prospects.

O’Neale, 31, had joined the Suns in February 2024 in a trade with the Brooklyn Nets. The Suns re-signed him in July 2024 for four more years at $44 million. Over the 2024-2025 season, he averaged 8.1 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, shooting 37.6% from beyond the arc.

The Cavaliers had been interested in acquiring O’Neale earlier in the 2024 season, nearly pulling off a trade during the February deadline. His addition is expected to provide a strong defensive presence and reliable shooting for Cleveland, helping them bolster their roster for the upcoming playoff push.
