Lamar Jackson’s remarkable career recently reached a new milestone. In the Ravens’ Week 6 game against the Washington Commanders, Jackson outscored Cam Newton to take the second-highest ranking on the NFL’s all-time quarterback running chart with three carries for 14 yards.

Jackson has now surpassed Newton’s 5,631 career running yards with 5,635 yards. Michael Vick, who owns the record with 6,109 yards, is the last quarterback Jackson has left to pursue. It looks like Jackson will eventually grab the lead because of his skill at rushing.

Jackson has revolutionized the quarterback position since joining the league in 2018. He has run for more than 690 yards in each season of his career, and his mix of speed, agility, and vision makes him a threat every time he takes off. Under offensive coordinator Todd Monken, Baltimore’s attack has changed to become more pass-focused, but Jackson’s legs are still an essential component of the strategy.

Washington’s defense put pressure on Jackson all day, so the Ravens need every bit of his adaptability against the Commanders. Despite his meager 14-yard run, those carries were enough to move him over Newton and into the second-best position in NFL history.

It’s a matter of “when,” not “if,” Jackson will surpass Michael Vick as the most prolific running quarterback in NFL history, since he now trails his all-time record by 4747 yards. He may surpass Vick’s record this season or the beginning of next due to his steady output on the field.

Jackson is not only shattering records but also altering the way quarterbacks are assessed. He is one of the NFL’s most dynamic and feared players because of his ability to succeed as a runner and a thrower. His legend grows with each scramble, and his accomplishment in Week 6 is just one more step in solidifying his legacy.
