FOX Carolina, Columbia, South Carolina In order to support local and state governments in their Hurricane Helene response efforts, Governor McMaster declared on Saturday that he has asked for an expedited major federal disaster declaration. If accepted, the declaration would offer citizens in the following counties that were affected by the hurricane assistance under the FEMA Individual Assistance Program:
According to the governor’s office, the request also covers qualifying non-profit organizations in the following counties as well as state and local government entities under categories A, B, and F of the FEMA Public Assistance Program:
The governor’s administration clarified that homeowners who suffered uninsured property damages during the hurricane would receive direct financial aid under the Individual aid Program, should it be implemented for South Carolina. The Public Assistance Program reimburses applicants for the unforeseen, extraordinary expenditures of recovering from a significant disaster, according to the governor’s office. According to the governor’s office, the Federal Emergency Management Agency provides 75% of this assistance; the remaining 25% will be divided at a later time.
