Luka Doncic is coming off of his best NBA season as he begins the 2024–25 campaign. Doncic made significant progress in his game, averaging 33.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, 9.8 assists, and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 48.7 percent from the field and 38.2 percent from three-point range. Doncic’s shooting was outstanding throughout the majority of the season, and he demonstrated growth on the defensive end of the court.
Doncic was unstoppable throughout the season, and he helped lead the Dallas Mavericks to their first NBA Finals appearance since 2011. Although Dallas lost to the Boston Celtics, this roster is ready to contend for the title once more this year; next week, the team will report to Las Vegas for training camp, which is expected to be “intense” in nature. Jason Kidd has the Mavs practicing in multiple two-a-day sessions, but Doncic’s preparation for the regular season has already started.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein of DLLS Mavs, Doncic has been practicing with Ilirija, a pro team in Slovenia. Doncic has been going through full practices with them, and him engaging in this extra work is guaranteeing that he will be in shape before training camp.
This season presents Doncic with his best shot yet at winning the NBA Finals and the NBA MVP award thanks to his revamped supporting cast, and his game should take another leap. This summer gave Doncic plenty of time to nurse the couple of injuries that hindered his performance in the playoffs, and his intense offseason regimen in Slovenia could be game-changing for him ahead of camp. Doncic would be the first to admit that he has fallen into the trap of coming into the season out of shape, but that doesn’t seem to be the case this year, and he seems locked in on being ready for the 2024–25 season.
If Doncic is at 100 percent when it comes to his injuries and he is indeed in great shape, the sky is the limit early on for this Mavs team. It may take a couple of games to get going due to the amount of new faces, but Doncic is the engine of this team.
