Next month, in Bahrain, MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi will test a prototype World Endurance Championship (WEC) car and drive the BMW LMDh vehicle. He will be operating the WRT-run BMW Hybrid V8 for the first time.

This weekend, Rossi is competing in the GT World Challenge Europe (GTWCE) Monza round, therefore he won’t be at Misano, where he usually supports his VR46 Academy riders at the Emilia Romagna GP. The Italian is a 2024 competitor in the WEC and GTWCE, and he said in May that he intends to carry on with this dual campaign the following year.

Following his retirement from MotoGP in 2021, Rossi turned to auto racing. He drove an Audi in the 2022 GT World Challenge Europe before switching to a BMW for 2023. At Misano, he celebrated winning the Sprint Cup GTWCE for the first time.

During the Bahrain rookie test last year, the 45-year-old racer tested WRT’s Oreca 07 LMP2 car, giving him his first taste of driving prototype WEC machinery. He competed in the LMGT3 class at the World Endurance Championship for the first time with WRT in 2024.

Together with Maxime Martin and Ahmad Al Harthy, Rossi has so far finished on the podium twice in the WEC, placing second at Imola and third at Fuji last weekend. The season’s concluding event, the Bahrain finale, will take place in November. It will be followed by the former rider’s test in an LMDh automobile. He has recently been criticizing Marc Marquez, a rider for Gresini, with whom he had a bitter feud during the 2015 MotoGP season. Rossi called Marquez the “dirtiest” rider in MotoGP, citing his impending move to Ducati’s factory squad for the upcoming season. He stated to the press:
