In relation to the 1977 killings of Susan Bartlett and Suzanne Armstrong on Easey Street in Collingwood, Victoria, Perry Kouroumblis was captured in Rome. Kouroumblis was prom

inently named as the person who found the murder weapon at the time of the murders. In a case that has been unresolved for more than 50 years, his arrest represented a critical step forward.

When word leaked out about the identities of the imprisoned, Kouroumblis’s relatives and friends had mixed reactions. Kouroumblis’ estranged cousin Periklis Kouroumblis called him a “jerk” and a “difficult character” while speaking from his home in Greece.

The Age claims that the “problem boy” spent his adolescent years stealing jewelry, breaking into houses, and bouncing between juvenile correctional facilities. The opinions expressed by friend Phil Akers, who chatted with Kouroumblis virtually daily for approximately ten years when the man resided next door to his Dandenong company, were substantially different from Kouroumblis’s.

Akers reportedly stated, “You could have knocked me off the chair with a feather when I heard the news,” according to ABC News. I was astounded.

“I doubt his ability to commit murder. Although anything is possible, Akers continued, “I never saw any aggression in him at all.” He was an excellent fisherman, so we would go out on the boat together and just sit there, have a beer, and toss some fish. “I don’t remember him having a large social circle, but he’s just a regular guy.” “I don’t believe he was reticent. He led a unique life, but he was in no way eccentric.
