Freddie Owens, an inmate, was executed by South Carolina on Friday as the state began executions again following an unplanned 13-year break due to prison officials’ inability to get the chemicals required for lethal injections.
Owens was found guilty of the robbery death of a Greenville convenience store clerk in 1997. Owens murdered a county jail inmate while he was on trial. Two juries and a judge heard his confession to the attack, and they all sentenced him to death.
