After finishing at his best point total in his career at Bristol tonight, Bubba Wallace’s Tennessee Volunteers were dominating Oklahoma as he got out of the car. As the NASCAR Bristol Night Race came to a close, the Vols had a 22-3 lead.

Tennessee easily defeated Oklahoma this evening, even if the final box score will make the match appear somewhat closer than it actually was. For the Sooners, it was a significant “Welcome to the SEC” moment. Pick was thrown by Jackson Arnold. There were errors. Oklahoma was in disarray.

When the Vols defeat a top-15 opponent by double digits after Bubba Wallace recorded his first-ever top-5 finish at Bristol, there is no greater feeling in the world. That is the icing on the cake.

Bubba Wallace was thinking about the Volunteer game even before the race began. During driver introductions, the majority of fans booed him, as is customary at races. At Bristol, however, drivers are able to respond. In an attempt to garner sympathy, Wallace exclaimed, “Go Big Orange.”

It was not very effective. However, his squad will still triumph in conference play against a formidable foe. Wallace can rejoice with his P3 finish, a sign of hope for the future. On short courses, it also demonstrates his progress in the Next Gen vehicle.

Wallace’s best finish in the three previous Next Gen races held at Bristol was P24. There has only ever been one top-10 finish at the track, and it came from Richard Petty Motorsports in 2020.

Big day for Tennessee football and Bubba Wallace alike.
