Chase Elliott, a former Cup Series winner, thinks NASCAR may take some cues from college football going forward. The Hendrick Motorsports star clarified that his own sport can adopt some of the intangibles college football possesses to improve the motorsports world, but he won’t get into conference realignment or anything else. Instead, he wants to see more season length.
Regarding how college football is run, Elliott stated, “I think they do a lot of things well,” via The Teardown. We did discuss this, but I believe the season’s duration should be the foremost concern. They get a lot done in a season, but when I say season, I don’t mean how many races you have to attend; rather, I mean how many calendar years you spend doing it. After all, as we discussed a month or two ago, as a fan of college football or just football in general, their season is pretty short. It’s exciting when it comes back around, you know. A yearning for this to happen.
That’s great, in my opinion, and our sport could use a bit more of those comments like, “Man, I missed that, and I really wish there was a race this weekend.” It’s unfortunate that there won’t be one this weekend, but when it happens, I’ll be eager to watch. That seems healthy to me. Less is more, in my opinion.
