There was a flurry of moves across Major League Baseball on Sunday.
With September now here, Major League Baseball rosters have now expanded giving teams an opportunity to bring up more players from the minor leagues. Contenders will take advantage of this to add exciting, young talent to bolster depth. Non-contenders likely will use these extra roster spots to take a look at young players to see if they can contribute in 2025.
All in all, there were a handful of moves made. One player who ended up on the short end of a move is former Philadelphia Phillies infielder Jean Segura. He has been in the Baltimore Orioles farm system and was released on Sunday, according to MLB Trade Rumors’ By Mark Polishuk.
“Amidst an already busy day of Orioles transactions, the O’s announced two more moves, as infielder Jean Segura has been released from his minor league contract and left-hander Nick Vespi was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk,” Polishuk said. “Segura signed his minors deal in August and hit only .137/.250/.196 over 60 plate appearances in 14 games with Norfolk.
