SPOILER WARNING: The season premiere of “Orphan Black: Echoes,” which is currently available to stream on AMC+, is spoilered in this post.

AMC and BBC America’s “Orphan Black: Echoes” series premiere provides limited details about Krysten Ritter’s mysterious character Lucy.

First and foremost, she’s instinctively resourceful, which comes in useful when she wakes up with no memory of who she is, with a friendly but strange woman (Keeley Hawes) probing her about anything she might know. She reacts violently, so she MacGyvers her way out of the confinement facility where she is being confined. She also ignores a few hints that point to the possibility that she came from a slimy vat of goo. But before Lucy has a chance to look into it, she disappears like a bandit in the night and reappears two years later as a field worker leading a peaceful life in the country.

She leases a mobile home from Jack (Avan Jogia), a single parent who farms property. She has a genuinely passionate connection with Jack, but they do not disclose it to his deaf daughter Charlie (Zariella Langford-Haughton). We find Lucy has a gun close by at all times, and has a pathological tendency of avoiding any talk of her history – she also enjoys SpaghettiOs straight from the can. That is all we have till things quickly turn worse.

Ritter says Variety, “I thought taking on a role with no memories or past was such an exciting acting challenge.” “She is entirely on the run, she does not know who she is, and she does not feel the way she should.”

That final aspect is made very evident when a man arrives at her trailer and tries to control her. It seems that Lucy can manage herself just fine, but a gunshot ends up saving her. Charlie is the one behind the trigger; he saved her with the rifle Lucy needs to conce

al better.
