Born in Santa Ana, California, Aldana rode for BSA in 1970 and rose to the rank of rookie expert on the AMA Grand National circuit.[1] Aldana presented a strong contender for the title. His aspirations of winning the championship were destroyed by an accident at the Sacramento Mile with three races remaining, but he did manage to win three nationals and finish third in the series.[1] He gained a lot of admirers with his all-or-nothing approach. In addition, he became well-known for donning a pair of racing leathers he developed, which had a front that contrasted a black leather suit with a human skeleton. At one point, AMA race officials threatened to ban him if he continued to wear the costume.[1] Aldana started focusing on road construction in the late 1970s.
