Before the No. 3 driver hooked him into the wall, Denny Hamlin believed that Austin Dillon’s wrecking of Joey Logano would result in an unlikely victory for his No. 11 team. We now know that NASCAR has revoked Dillon’s playoff eligibility, but his victory at Richmond will remain a record. Hamlin took some time on the most recent episode of his Actions Detrimental podcast to talk about how he came to the checkered flag on Sunday. I certainly did not anticipate the course it would take for the remaining 200 yards. Between the No. 22 and No. 1 cars, I thought it was too far apart to make a legitimate racing move. 3). However, I noticed that the No. 3 driver did not slow down; I mean, he just kept going; it was clear that he was not going to turn the corner in a reasonable manner. In regards to the finish, Hamlin explained, “I thought β my eyes got really big, because I knew that he carried so much speed in, regardless of whether he made contact with the No. 22, he was going to have such a bad run off, I had a legit shot to get around him.” When I saw that he was going to reach the No. 22, which was, I mean, we’re talking about split seconds here, my eyes got bigger. This happens very quickly.

This happens very quickly. I began to observe the No. 22 begin to veer sideways. I think, “Sβ, this is it.” I will purchase one. Similar to the reverse. I’ll get one I probably didn’t deserve, you know.’ But, yes, the track clears, and I come off the corner as I always do because I believe the No. 3 is up there in the smoke. I mean, the next thing you know, my car crashes into the fence head-on. crushes me and the vehicle. I also see these, you know, the checked ones, and we weren’t the first ones there. Thus, it was a bizarre sequence of events. You know, your feelings start to rise. It feels like, “Ah, we won’t win.” We are, oh, my God. We are not, no.’ That quick, isn’t it? From my point of view, that’s what was crazy, as well as the feelings I felt in those three seconds. Denny Hamlin didn’t win, but he did finish second, and when NASCAR decided to exclude Austin Dillon from the playoffs because of his behavior, he was able to celebrate. In the end, the loss of momentum on the final lap was not a bad tradeoff.
