He debated with the Cowboys’ social media team about how many Post Malone songs he could include in his responses. He didn’t tell reporters in the audience, but he thought he got in seven or eight. During the press conference, he spoke about his ongoing contract negotiations with the Cowboys and his opinion on the escalating “ankle gate” controversy. Prescott is in the final year of a four-year, $160 million contract he signed in 2021. If the Cowboys don’t sign him to an extension, he could go unrestricted free agency after the season. Prescott, who grew up supporting the Cowboys, intends to retire in Dallas. The team seems to want him to stay on as its starting quarterback. The negotiation of a contract that is acceptable to both parties is the issue at hand. A record for the NFL, Prescott could command $60 million or more per year on the open market. The current high water mark for any deal with the Cowboys is $55 million per year. However, Prescott peeled back the curtains just a little bit and made it clear that he was just as hopeful and encouraged about signing a contract with the Cowboys. Prescott stated, “Good conversations are taking place.” There are a lot of positive things taking place. I’ll confirm that. I have a lot of faith in my team’s ability to complete their tasks. A deal would not be set in stone by Prescott. He stated that he is concentrating on training camp and that he is letting his agent handle everything. However, he acknowledged having confidence. In addition, Prescott made it clear that his surgically repaired ankle does not pose any long-term risks, despite the fact that he was seen wearing a boot on July 4 and taking a rest day during practice last week due to soreness in his ankle. The most recent issue surfaced following the Cowboys’ joint practice with the Rams on Thursday, prior to their 13-12 preseason defeat. Since 2019, Prescott has not participated in the preseason and was not scheduled to participate in the game. He participated fully in another joint practice on Wednesday and returned to practice on Tuesday. On Thursday, he practiced extensively. Prescott stated, “It goes without saying that I’m fine.” “Maybe the wrong people initiated the ankle gate as a whole or something. I’m okay. And it doesn’t matter if you take a vet day or a day of rest every now and then to just get on top of things and make sure there are no residual problems. Yes, I’m okay. There is no ankle gate or similar feature. After suffering a compound fracture in 2020, Prescott acknowledged that he needs to perform additional ankle maintenance. This caused him to miss the final 11 games of the season and necessitated two surgeries. Since then, he has never missed a game because of an ankle injury. Prescott’s body and ankle are managed by a personal trainer. It took place four years ago. It was a terrible injury to the ankle, “Prescott stated. When I’m doing my rehab, I do it every other day to make sure I’m staying focused on it and not trying to miss anything. If anything, it will merely consist of occasional breaks. Nothing long-term, particularly given our schedule. I don’t really see what this will accomplish. and no lingering effects.” Related Articles from the Dallas Cowboys and Fort Worth Star-Telegram The Dallas Cowboys add to their team with moves that could have been made earlier.
