In addition, the Langley Advance Times has compiled a collection of articles discussing the participants and the planned festivities in advance of the massive community event that will take place in downtown Aldergrove on September 10. More information about the upcoming Cruise-In will be posted here each day. . Although John Foxley only builds cars as a hobby, the skills of this Langley Good Times Cruise-In regular have earned him international acclaim and front-page coverage in some of the best roadster magazines over the years. When Foxley was young, he started building model cars, which sparked his interest in automobiles. He quickly moved on to making custom bicycles. He soon began restoring and rebuilding his own automobiles from that point on. He now shares his passion with his children. Foxley’s mom rushed to distinguish his enthusiasm for vehicles early on, first supporting his assortment of tiny toy vehicles, and afterward Hot Wheels – as they came available. He said, “I was crazy for all that,” but he said that going to the Vancouver Art Gallery changed his life the most. His mother took him to the gallery’s hot rod show when he was seven years old. He recalled, “There were all these cool, custom cars being displayed in the art gallery, with a bunch of art on the walls and things like that… basically acknowledging that these cars are art.” Related: The debut of a father and son’s car at the Langley Good Times Cruise-In That was 1968, and what Foxley calls an essential second in his life. She had no idea how much of an effect it would have on me. In any case, it did.” He stated, “I just liked cars,” noting that no one in particular had any influence on him. However, by the middle of the 1970s, he frequently found his head buried in vintage hot rod and custom car magazines that had been given to him by a family friend. He said that the gallery exhibition and all the magazines “really imprinted” on him and inspired him to eventually start building his own cars because he saw cars as art in and of themselves. When it comes to hot rods and customs, the current fashion is largely based on a retro aesthetic from the 1950s and 1960s. When you want to know how to build one of these cars, you kind of go back to that standard of style. As a result, I basically learned about all of the cars that are popular now, way back in the day. They truly engraved on me. So, as I got older, those older styles that I learned about when I was young basically motivated me to build a lot of cars now in that style.” Foxley has the skills and passion to build cars, and his efforts have earned him praise at Canadian and American custom car shows. However, the Pitt Meadows resident still considers it a hobby rather than a career. However, he does work as a sign and graphic installer for automobiles. He said that his customers have given him a lot of helpful advice about car body work and painting, even though it doesn’t directly involve him in the building of cars part of the business. Through the years, he has rebuilt and customized numerous automobiles, the majority of which are cars from the 1930s to the 1950s, but they are rebuilt in a style from the late 1950s and early 1960s. He is especially proud of his 1939 Mercury two-door, which he plans to show off this year at the Langley Good Times Cruise-In. In 2017, a friend made the decision to construct a workshop rather than rebuild the car and invited Foxley over to have a look. “I wasn’t looking for one of these; it just kind of fell in my lap,” the person said. He finished it in January 2020 and brought it to the Grand National Roadster Show in California, where he finished second in the “early custom” category and got a lot of press attention. The previous year, he also won a trophy for his 1934 Ford coupe at the Grand National Roadster Show. While he’s been bringing his vehicles down to the show close to Los Angeles for pretty much 10 years, his custom work has been highlighted in significant Canadian and American shows and fan magazines for the majority of 25 years. Although all the attention is nice, Foxley has fallen in love with one of the most recent projects, which he helped rebuild almost entirely from scratch. He rebuilt it for and with his son Jackson, a 1955 Chevy Bel Air two-door sedan. In North Vancouver, he discovered the Chevy, which he described as being in “very rough shape.” Additionally, during COVID, the father and son spent countless hours completely rebuilding it, replacing everything from the engine to the body and interior. Foxley elaborated, “Jackson has been around it his whole life, because I build cars for myself.” However, Jackson, his 15-year-old son, will turn 16 in December and can’t wait to get his license and drive his finished custom Chevy. Foxley might be showing his child some things about vehicles. In fact, Jackson is currently assisting Dad with the customization of a 1952 Chevy, which he hopes to finish by the end of the year and display at the Grand National Roadster Show in February. However, Jackson is also teaching his father a few things about cars and social media. The adolescent has set up a channel on YouTube and is making and sharing videos about hot rods in an effort to get his generation interested in the hobby of collecting and building custom cars. The male members of the Foxley family are not the only ones who are interested in car culture. According to Dad, it is a growing family interest. They also enjoy going to the various car shows and swap meets with his wife and daughter. Jorja, his 14-year-old daughter, is now planning the restoration of her 1956 Chevrolet stepside pickup, which is Foxley’s next project. She’s interested. Being a little kid, she hasn’t done a lot with vehicles up until this point. But she wants to fix her truck, which is piled high in a million pieces like an automotive pyramid. Foxley and his entire family intend to attend Langley Good Times Cruise-In this weekend in the interim. He’s been at pretty much all of the foundation vehicle shows for the beyond 15 years – a couple of times with his own vehicles, however most times as an onlooker. He will undoubtedly bring the Mercury this time around. Additionally, he mentioned that he might exhibit one of his other custom cars, as well as his family.
