Blue Jays’ Shane Bieber Completes Second Rehab Start with Buffalo
Toronto Blue Jays’ right-hander Shane Bieber took another significant step toward returning to the big-league mound, completing his second rehab start with the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons on Saturday. The 2020 AL Cy Young Award winner, who has been sidelined since April with a right forearm strain, delivered a steady outing as he continues building up arm strength and command before rejoining the Blue Jays’ rotation.
Bieber pitched 4.2 innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out five and walking just one. His fastball sat in the 92–94 mph range, showing improved velocity compared to his first rehab appearance. He mixed in his signature curveball and slider effectively, drawing several swings and misses. While not yet at peak form, Bieber looked comfortable and in control for most of his outing, a positive sign for both Buffalo and Toronto fans.
“Physically, I feel great,” Bieber said postgame. “It’s about getting the reps in, building pitch count, and sharpening the feel for all my pitches. I’m encouraged by the progress.”
Blue Jays manager John Schneider has emphasized that Bieber’s return will be based on readiness rather than a strict timeline. With the team battling for a playoff spot in the competitive AL East, the addition of a proven ace could be a major boost heading into the season’s final stretch.
If his next rehab start goes smoothly, Bieber could be in line for a mid-to-late August return to the Blue Jays’ rotation. The club hopes his experience and consistency will stabilize a pitching staff that has seen its share of injuries and inconsistency in recent weeks.
For now, all eyes are on Bieber’s next outing, as Toronto’s faithful eagerly await the day their ace steps back onto the Rogers Centre mound.
