The investment — the largest in the history of college sports — is set to revolutionize the game day experience and solidify “The Big House” as the undisputed epicenter of college football.

This is more than a renovation. It’s a reimagination of what college football can be,” said Warde Manuel, Michigan’s athletic director. “We are building the future of fan experience, while preserving the legacy that makes Michigan Stadium a national treasure.”

At the heart of the renovation is a technological transformation. Fans will enjoy stadium-wide 5G connectivity, immersive augmented reality displays, AI-powered smart seating, and new ultra-high-definition 16K video boards — the largest in any stadium worldwide. Each seat will offer personalized access to instant replays, stats, and even in-seat food and merchandise ordering through a custom mobile app.

The project will also include the addition of over 100 luxury suites, complete with private lounges, high-end catering, and VIP access to pregame and postgame events. Multiple climate-controlled club areas will offer premium views, upscale dining, and exclusive experiences for season ticket holders and sponsors.

Seating capacity will expand to over 120,000, reinforcing Michigan Stadium’s title as the largest in the Western Hemisphere. Enhanced accessibility features, sustainable design elements — including solar roofing, rainwater recycling, and carbon-neutral construction materials — and a complete overhaul of concessions and restrooms are also key components of the plan.

Construction is set to begin in early 2026 and will be executed in phases to allow the Wolverines to continue playing at home during the renovation process. The full project is expected to be completed by the start of the 2029 season.
