New Saint owner, Gayle Benson abruptly terminates Dennis Allen’s contract as Kellen Moore is engaged…
In a decisive move, New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson terminated head coach Dennis Allen’s contract on November 4, 2024, following a disappointing 2-7 start to the season. Benson stated, “This decision is something that I felt we needed to make at this time.”
The Saints officially announced Kellen Moore as their new head coach on February 11, 2025. At 35, Moore becomes the 19th head coach in franchise history and the youngest current head coach in the NFL. He joins the Saints after serving as the offensive coordinator for the Super Bowl-winning Philadelphia Eagles. Moore expressed gratitude to the organization and eagerness to begin this new chapter.
Moore’s hiring fills the last head-coaching vacancy in the NFL this season. He is expected to bring fresh expertise to the Saints, who face significant financial and roster challenges, including being $54.1 million over the salary cap. Moore will personally handle play-calling duties for the team’s offense.
Speculation about Moore’s potential defensive coaching staff suggests he may recruit Brandon Staley, former Los Angeles Chargers head coach, as defensive coordinator. Other potential staff members include Eric Henderson as Defensive Line Coach and Jay Rodgers as Linebackers Coach.
Benson and general manager Mickey Loomis expressed confidence that Moore’s leadership could reinstate the team’s winning culture. Moore will return to Philadelphia for their victory parade before fully immersing himself in his new role with the Saints.
