SAD NEWS: A devastating fire destroys Highland University’s dorm, killing 65 people…. details

Tragedy struck Highland University late last night as a catastrophic fire engulfed one of its largest dormitories, claiming the lives of 65 individuals and leaving dozens more injured. The blaze, which broke out in the early hours of the morning, quickly spread through the multi-story building, trapping many students inside as they slept.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire began around 2:30 AM, with alarms sounding shortly after. Despite the swift response from campus security and local fire departments, the intensity of the flames and heavy smoke made rescue efforts extremely challenging. Many students were seen attempting to escape through windows, while others were caught in the hallways as the fire rapidly consumed the structure.

Fire Chief Daniel Roberts described the scene as one of the most harrowing in his 20-year career. “The building was fully engulfed when we arrived. We did everything we could to get people out, but the heat and smoke were overwhelming,” Roberts said during a press conference.

Emergency services transported over 40 individuals to nearby hospitals, with several in critical condition suffering from severe burns and smoke inhalation. The identities of the victims are being withheld pending notification of their families.

Highland University’s president, Dr. Laura Greene, expressed profound grief in a statement released this morning. “This is an unimaginable loss for our community. Our hearts go out to the families and friends of those affected. We are working closely with local authorities to support the survivors and investigate the cause of this tragedy.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, though preliminary reports suggest it may have originated from an electrical malfunction on one of the lower floors. Officials have not ruled out other possibilities, including potential safety violations, as investigators comb through the debris for clues.

In the wake of the disaster, the university has canceled classes for the week and set up counseling services for students, faculty, and staff grappling with the aftermath. A vigil is planned for tomorrow evening on the university’s main quad to honor the lives lost.

This heartbreaking event marks one of the deadliest campus fires in recent history, leaving a lasting scar on Highland University and beyond.
