Breaking: Berks County’s 34th World War II Weekend is Coming to a Conclusion.
After three days of immersive living history, vintage aircraft displays, and powerful remembrance, Berks County’s 34th annual World War II Weekend is drawing to a close at the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum in Reading, Pennsylvania.
Held from June 24–26, this year’s event once again transported visitors back to the 1940s, offering a unique and deeply respectful tribute to the men and women who served during World War II. Thousands of attendees from across the country gathered to witness historical reenactments, explore encampments, and engage with veterans who shared first-hand accounts of their experiences.
The WWII Weekend, now in its 34th year, has become a signature event not only for Berks County but for history enthusiasts nationwide. Known for its authenticity and scale, the weekend featured:
- Over 1,000 re-enactors portraying Allied and Axis troops, civilian resistance fighters, and home front figures
- Dozens of vintage warbirds including the B-17 Flying Fortress, P-51 Mustangs, and C-47 transports offering ride-alongs
- Living history camps, where visitors walked through authentic field kitchens, military hospitals, and barracks
- USO-style entertainment, including swing bands, period dances, and Andrews Sisters tributes
- Veteran panels and meet-and-greets, providing rare opportunities for the public to connect with WWII survivors
As the event winds down, organizers and volunteers reflect on another successful weekend marked by education, reverence, and community. It’s more than just an airshow or a reenactment, said event coordinator Michael Deatrich. This is about honoring history, preserving memories, and ensuring the sacrifices made are never forgotten.
Sunday’s closing ceremonies featured a poignant flyover, Taps played at sunset, and a final salute to the Greatest Generation. For many, it’s a somber but proud momentmarking the end of the weekend, but reinforcing the enduring legacy of those who lived through one of the most pivotal eras in history.
