The University of Tennessee football community is mourning the loss of former head coach Bill Battle, who passed away on October 29, 2023, at the age of 92.
Battle, a native of Birmingham, Alabama, served as the head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers from 1970 to 1976. During his tenure, he led the team to a 59-22-2 record, including a 11-1 season in 1970.
“Coach Battle was a true Tennessee legend,” said current Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel. “His contributions to our program, both on and off the field, will never be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
