In a major leadership shift for one of the NFL’s most storied franchises, Green Bay Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy has officially announced his upcoming retirement. During a press briefing earlier today, Murphy confirmed he will step down in July 2025, in accordance with the organization’s age-based retirement policy.

His successor will be Ed Policy, the Packers’ current Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel, who has been a key figure behind the scenes since 2012.

“This is the right time and the right person,” Murphy said. “Ed has been instrumental in everything we’ve built here—from Titletown to strengthening our community relationships. He’s more than ready.”

Policy’s selection followed an extensive national search. The team’s executive committee reviewed over 90 candidates before unanimously naming Policy as the next President and CEO.

Policy called the appointment “an honor of a lifetime,” adding, “This is the absolute best job in sports. I’m proud to carry forward a legacy that puts fans and community first.”

Under Murphy’s leadership since 2008, the Packers have remained competitive on the field, including a Super Bowl XLV title in 2010, while also expanding their influence off the field. His push for the Titletown development transformed the area around Lambeau Field into a thriving business and entertainment hub.

Murphy’s transition plan ensures a smooth handoff with Policy, who will officially take over in July 2025.

Packers fans have taken to social media to thank Murphy for his years of leadership and to welcome Policy with optimism and support. With a steady hand guiding the front office, Green Bay’s future looks as strong as its tradition.

The Mark Murphy era ends next summer—but the legacy he leaves will shape the Packers for years to come.
