The Tennessee Volunteers have reached No. 7 in the College Football Playoff (CFP) rankings, their highest initial ranking since 2022. This ranking was announced as part of the first 2024 CFP poll. Tennessee, currently with a 7-1 record, is also ranked as the third-highest team in the SEC, trailing behind only Georgia and Texas. As the CFP expands to a 12-team format, Tennessee’s position holds significant promise for their playoff aspirations. Under the new format, the No. 7 seed would grant the Volunteers a potential home game against the No. 8 seed, which, as of this ranking, would be Indiana.

If Tennessee maintains or improves this ranking, they’ll have a strong chance of competing in the CFP quarterfinals. The team’s success has been attributed to solid performances across both offense and defense, giving them momentum heading into the season’s critical closing games.
