Ten Penland School of Craft Mission students tragically died in a horrific accident on Saturday, leaving their families devastated. The tight-knit community was left in shock and sadness when the pupils were engaged in a car accident on their way home from a field trip.
The car carrying 12 students collided with a truck on Highway 78 at approximately 4 p.m., according to the authorities. Although emergency personnel were on the site in a short amount of time, ten pupils were tragically declared deceased. The remaining two pupils suffered severe injuries that sent them to the hospital, where their conditions are still being evaluated.
Students from all over the nation come to the Penland School of Craft, which is renowned for its commitment to the arts and crafts community and is situated in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains. The organization released a statement saying, “Our hearts are broken,” in response to the death. These students were active members of our community, and we shall really miss them.
Both drivers are said to have complied with traffic restrictions, and local officials are looking into what caused the crash. Leaders in the community are banding together to support the impacted families, as well as the faculty, staff, and students of the school during this terrible time.
To commemorate the students’ memories, vigils are being organized; the first one is set for Tuesday night at the school. The public is welcome to participate in this act of support and remembering for the victims of this tragedy.
The Penland School and the larger Gastly community have been profoundly impacted by the loss of these young lives, which emphasizes the fleeting nature of life and the value of supporting one another during difficult times.
