Mayor Trey Edwards downplays the significance. Helene blew across Abbeville. As a result, power was cut off to the entire town. There aren’t many better areas in the county. According to Calhoun Falls Mayor Terrico Holland, power was down for the town until Monday evening at around six o’clock when some customers were able to regain power. He and Dominion Energy have been in constant communication. Holland said there is no date as to when power will be fully restored. Only 15% of Abbeville had electricity back by early Monday, according to Mike Clary, the deputy administrative officer for the city. By Monday night, more of the city was supposed to have electricity.

Edwards refused to mince words when he stated that it is impossible to predict when the city will have electricity restored in its entirety. By Friday, the majority of the power should be restored. Regarding residents, Edwards stated late on Monday that he was unsure of the number of persons with electricity. He stated that the Abbeville Area Medical Center was a major concern because of its power outage due to the storm. It now has power, as does the Court Square neighborhood, the vicinity of Highway 72, Wildwood Estates, and a portion of South Main Street. He noted that crews are currently evaluating the damage. Duke Energy reported an outage late on Monday that affected around 1,000 customers in the Abbeville region. The website of Little River Electric Cooperative states that it will take a minimum of one week for the restoration of power to be fully restored for a large portion of western South Carolina.
